CCRN OAU Alumni Advent Reflections – Day 6 (5th December 2025)

1st Rdn: Isaiah 29:17-24
Psalm 27(26): 1,4,13-14
Gos: Matthew 9: 27- 31

There is one thing I ask of the LORD, only this do I seek : to live in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD, to enquire at his temple (Psalm 27: 4)

“The unexamined life is not worth living” is a popular saying attributed to Socrates. This important truth lays credence on the need for man to constantly re-evaluate his purpose and motive without which he can be likened to a ship without a rudder on the ocean of life that is tossed hither and thither. It can not arrive at the predetermined destination.

This period of Advent carries in it a great opportunity for you and I to ask ourselves the crucial question of our life’s purpose. A sincere answer to this can not be a knee jerk response. It demands an honest appraisal of our pursuits, actions and motives by the help of the Holy Spirit. Is my life’s purpose an endless pursuit of material gains and pleasure? Has your faith been commercialised? Even when we claim to seek God as Christians, has He become a means to our selfish ends? There lies the danger of reducing the Christian faith and works to a transactional venture.

The Psalmist helps us to realise that David, the man after God’s own heart, was a man of one thing – seeking the Lord all the days of His life . Our saviour, Lord Jesus Christ, in His earthly sorjeon was consumed by only one thing – “to do the will of the _father” (_ John 4: 34). Only when our life’s pursuit is in harmony with His will can we truly live, be fruitful and be at peace. As He is the good Shepherd, He abundantly cares to the needs of His flock (Matthew 6: 33).

Shall we take the time during this advent, to reflect on our life’s journey so far. To see, through the help of the Holy Spirit, if the love and pursuit of God is truly the bedrock of our being. Shall the groom meet you and I prepared at His second coming?
