Advent Reflections Day 2 ( 1st December 2025)

First Reading: Is 4:2-6
Psalm – Ps 122
Gospel: Matt 8:5-11

As we begin the first week of Advent, we recall the goal of the season; to welcome Jesus (again) into our lives.

In the Gospel reading, the centurion asks Jesus’s help for his servant’s healing, and when Jesus offers to go to the house, he declines and tells him to give a word instead. The centurion, a man of authority himself, understood the power in the words from one with authority. He knew that if his own words could get the 100 soldiers under his command to do his bidding, how much more Jesus’s words to the disease in a man’s body?

Perhaps his refusal and assessment of his unworthiness stemmed from his being a gentile and a hated Roman official among the Jews. But he asked in faith and believed, and Jesus commended his faith.

We who are in the body of Christ, have no excuse. We are in the family of Christ, neither gentile nor slave, but co-heirs with Christ, and loved by Him. Like the centurion, we must look at the diseased parts of our lives and invite him to heal us. Fortunately for us, Jesus stands daily at our door knocking and asking to be let in. He wants to come in.

So when He asks, everyday, and especially in this season of advent,

“Shall I come and heal?”

Don’t decline due to your pain, your unworthiness, your fear, or your position.

Say yes and let Him in. Believe His words and their power over your life.
