Advent Reflections Day 17 (16th December 2025)

First Reading: Zephaniah 3:1 -2.9-13

Gospel: Mathew 21:28-32

In the Gospel, Jesus warns us against mere lip service. To enter the Kingdom of God, it is not enough to profess faith with our words alone; we must also live it out through our actions. In the parable of the two sons, the first initially refused to go to the vineyard but later changed his mind and obeyed, while the second agreed readily yet failed to do the work. Through this, Jesus teaches us that obedience matters more than empty promises.

When Jesus says that tax collectors and prostitutes will enter the Kingdom of God before the chief priests and elders, it may sound demeaning at first. However, this statement is meant to remind us that God is not impressed by outward appearances, titles, or words without action. He desires sincere hearts and lives that reflect true repentance and obedience.

Though tax collectors and prostitutes were considered great sinners, Jesus assures us that there is a place in God’s Kingdom for everyone—regardless of past sins—if only we repent, confess with our lips, and turn away from sin and Satan. Christ stands with open arms, ready to welcome all who return to Him in humility and faith.
